魔力紅成軍的背景其實滿有趣的，這個灰姑娘般的故事早在1995年就已經開始萌芽，當時主唱/吉他手Adam Levine、鍵盤樂器手Jesse Carmichael以及貝斯手Mickey Madden是同一所高中的同學，Levine再找來他的兒時好友－鼓手Ryan Dusick，組成了Kara's Flowers這支搖滾團體，並且發行了一張專輯《The Fourth World》，專輯雖然叫好但不叫座，因此當時這幾位只有17歲的大男孩決定暫時放下在樂壇發展的計劃，先各自回校園完成大學學業再說。團員們在這段休息期間並沒有忘記創作，主唱Levine更在這段期間開始接觸原本不熟悉的靈魂、放克與R&B音樂，因此他在創作中除了原本的搖滾與民謠元素之外，注入了更多不同的風格，這樣的風格也成為Maroon 5現在曲風的雛形。後來團員們的學業告一段落後準備要重新出發，在加入了新團員吉他手James Valentine之後，Maroon 5正式成軍。
